SUMMARY:Bored Again Catholic: How the Mass Could Save Your Life (Live Streamed)
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, March 28\, 7-8:30pm \nWith Timothy P. O’Malley\, Ph.D\, University of Notre Dame \nThe Mass is source and summit of Catholic life. But how do we learn to pray the Mass well? How do we enter fully into this prayer? How do we pray at all\, in the Mass or outside of it\, when we often find ourselves so distracted in daily life? In this session\, we’ll look at how the Mass is a school of prayer. And we’ll explore how we can enter this school of prayer\, discovering the gift of the contemplative life along the way.  ($10 donation requested.) CFD: Spirituality \n Timothy P. He is also a theologian in the Department of Theology at the University of Notre Dame. SUMMARY:Heaven and the AfterLife
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, February 6\, 10am-11:30pm \nwith Sr. Mary Kay Oosdyke\, OP \nThis program will be live-streamed. \nChristians maintain a faith and a hope that there is something “more” beyond life on earth. That faith/hope is well grounded in Jesus Christ\, the Risen One. But our condolences of\, “He/She is in a better place\,” or “He/She is in heaven\,” at wakes and funerals leaves even us wondering about the meaning of what we have just said. Without meaning\, can words be comforting?  This program will look at some possibilities we can imagine of what might happen after death and then go back and look deeply at what our faith teaches us.  Bring your thoughts and questions to enrich our understanding of this life-shaping mystery.   CFD: Spirituality \n$10 Offering Suggested\n Give Now by Selecting Quick Give or pay at class.  \n[gravityform id=”3″ title=”true” description=”true” ajax=”true” field_values=”program_title=Heaven and the AfterLife”]

SUMMARY:Freedom to Love: A Gospel Guide to Moral Decision-Making
DESCRIPTION:Tuesdays\, January 15 & 22\, 7-8:30pm \nwith John Graveline \nEvery day we are given opportunities to choose love. However\, moral deliberation is not always clear and simple. Sometimes\, it’s not clear what the right thing to do is in a particular situation.  or we leave the good undone and add to the woundedness of our world\, despite our intentions. Where do we look for guidance to recognize the good and the courage to live compassionately? These sessions will seek a Gospel approach though prayer\, reflection\, and dialogue to place the gift of freedom at the service of love.  CFD: Spirituality     ($10 donation per session requested) \nGive Now by Selecting Quick Give or pay at class.  \n[gravityform id=”3″ title=”true” description=”true” ajax=”true” field_values=”program_title=Freedom to Love”]

SUMMARY:Mary--Bridge between Catholics and Muslims?
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, November 5\, 7-8:30pm \nPresented by Rita George-Tvrtković \nHow has the Virgin Mary been “shared” by Christians and Muslims over time? We’ll begin by comparing Biblical and Qur’anic Annunciation stories\, and then sketch out the contours of a broad historical trajectory which has vacillated between two opposite ideas: Mary as interfaith bridge\, or Mary as interfaith barrier. We’ll examine pivotal texts\, art works\, and shrines which have brought Christians\, Muslims\, and Mary together\, and which have affected Catholic views of Islam in both positive and negative directions\, depending on time and place. We’ll end by learning what a key Vatican II document\, “Nostra Aetate\,” has to say about Muslims and Mary. Does this long history of sharing Mary continue to affect Christian-Muslim relations today?  CFD: Spirituality       ($10 donation requested) \n  \nRita George-Tvrtković (PhD\, University of Notre Dame) is associate professor of theology at Benedictine University in Illinois\, where she specializes in medieval and contemporary Christian-Muslim relations. She is former associate director of the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Office for Ecumenical & Interreligious Affairs\, and currently serves on the USCCB’s National Catholic-Muslim Dialogue. Her books include Christians\, Muslims\, and Mary: A History (Paulist Press\, 2018). SUMMARY:Finding Joy and Meaning in the Second Half of Life
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, September 11\, 10-11:30am (lunch included following the program) \nWith Fr. Joachim Lally\, CSP \nCost: $15.00 \nThis opening session of Encore is directed at some of the basic questions of our lives: What is our primary identity at this stage of our life? Are we focusing on the past\, the present\, or the future?  What is giving us a feeling of zest at this point in our lives?  Do we see any connections between the “first half of our life” and now the “second half of our life?” Are we closer or further away from finding meaning to the times of sufferings and losses of our lives? What spiritual practices draw us into deeper joy? Do we resonate with the recently spoken words of Pope Francis: “To follow God’s law\, begin with gratitude?” \nYou are invited to join us in the pondering and “living out” of these fundamental questions as we begin the Encore experience.   CFD: Spirituality \n Give Now by Selecting Quick Give or pay at class.  \n[gravityform id=”3″ title=”true” description=”true” ajax=”true” field_values=”program_title=Finding Joy and Meaning”]

SUMMARY:The Virtue of Resilience
DESCRIPTION:With Fr. Bill Edens\, C.S.P. \nLife’s many challenges create the small deaths and rebirths that characterize human life. So often it seems that we will not make it through the current crisis. But a glance back on our life reminds us that we have weathered many challenges. Each of these times of adversity\, trauma\, or tragedy have called forth resilience – the spiritual\, psychological\, and emotional flexibility that has allowed us to grow and thrive in the midst of unforeseen struggles. In this session we learn how to utilize the skills of recruiting\, reframing\, and resolving in building the virtue of resilience and finding the healing that will make us whole.
