SUMMARY:Holy Brew: What's Brewing in Your Life? (Nov)
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, Nov. 7\,  6:30-8pm \nWith Fr. Michael Hennessy\, CSP \nMeeting at Peppino’s Sports Grille (130 Ionia Avenue SW\, Grand Rapids\, MI 49503) \n Being a young adult today – 20s and 30s\, single or married – comes with many important (if not challenging) questions… \nHow do I make the important decisions in a world of so many choices? \n\nHow can I find stability in my life when I get a new job – or a new city to live in – every few years?\nHow can I meet new people and create new friendships while sustaining the relationships I already have?\nWhat are the responsibilities I have to my family when I am living my own life?\nHow do I navigate the complicated world of social media and technology?\nWhat is the difference between being alone and being lonely?\n\nThe good news is that we don’t have to come up with these answers on our own! \nAt Holy Brew we come together one Thursday a month over a meal and a pint to talk through these topics. As Catholics\, we believe our church’s tradition and teaching can guide us through this formative time of our life. When we share our own experiences and listen to the journeys of other young adults\, we trust that the Holy Spirit speaks to our hearts and gives us the strength to life authentic Christian lives. So\, bring a friend\, or come on your own and we’ll set you up at a table with other young adults. SUMMARY:Technology\, Distraction\, and Restless Hearts: Our Roadmap to the Peace of Christ
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, November 6\, 7-8:30pm \nWith Fr. Michael Hennessy\, CSP \nThey’ve done the research\, and the results aren’t so good!  Americans—of all backgrounds\, ages\, and religious traditions —are using technology more and more\, often accompanied by negative effects on our mental health and overall well-being. Yet\, this is not completely our fault: the technology we encounter in our daily lives—social media\, smartphones\, Netflix—has been engineered to hook us. \nSo where does that leave us as Catholics? What does our great spiritual tradition have to say about technology\, about the way our brains work\, about how to be fully engaged in our complex and connected world? Does our tradition offer us anything at all here or are we on our own to figure this all out? \nJoin us for a two-part conversation that weaves together Church teaching\, psychology\, scriptural insight\, and current research to understand our world a little better and chart a path forward. \n\nIn September\, we’ll survey the digital scene and begin to make connections between our connected world—social media and smartphones—and our spiritual lives.\nIn November\, we’ll reflect on what it is our souls long for\, how technology can confuse or enlighten this search\, and we’ll make a plan for our digital and spiritual lives.\n\nThese are significant questions without easy answers. Yet\, we are people of hope\, and also have great trust in the Holy Spirit’s guidance.  CFD: Spiritualty \n

DESCRIPTION:Thursdays\, Oct. 3 & Nov. \nGive Now by Selecting Quick Give or pay at class.  \n[gravityform id=”3″ title=”true” description=”true” ajax=”true” field_values=”program_title=Holy Brew (Oct.)”] \n

SUMMARY:Technology\, Distraction\, and Restless Hearts: Our Roadmap to the Peace of Christ
DESCRIPTION:Wednesdays\, September 18 & November 6\, 7-8:30pm \nFr. Michael Hennessy\, CSP \nThey’ve done the research\, and the results aren’t so good!  Americans of all backgrounds\, ages\, and religious traditions are using technology more and more\, often accompanied by negative effects on our mental health and overall well-being. Yet\, this is not completely our fault: the technology we encounter in our daily lives – social media\, smartphones\, Netflix – has been engineered to hook us. \nSo\, where does leave us\, as Catholics? What does our great spiritual tradition have to say about technology\, about the way our brains work\, about how to be fully engaged in our complex and connected world? Does our tradition offer us anything at all here or are we on our own to figure this all out? \nJoin us for a two part conversation that weaves together Church teaching\, psychology\, scriptural insight\, and current research to understand our world a little better and chart a path forward. \n\nIn September\, we’ll survey the digital scene and begin to make connections between our connected world – social media and smartphones – and our spiritual lives.\nIn November\, we’ll reflect on what it is our souls long for\, how technology can confuse or enlighten this search\, and we’ll make a plan for our digital and spiritual lives.\n\nThese are significant questions without easy answers. Yet\, we are people of hope\, and also have great trust in the Holy Spirit’s guidance.  CFD: Spiritualty \nGive Now by Selecting Quick Give or pay at class.  \n[gravityform id=”3″ title=”true” description=”true” ajax=”true” field_values=”program_title=Tech\, Distraction & Restless Hearts”]

SUMMARY:Family Picnic and Presentation Transformed by Grace: Pope Francis & Everyday Holiness
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, July 21\, 3-5:15pm \nPresentation by Paul Fahey \nAt the Cathedral of Saint Andrew Parish Center \n(301 Sheldon SE\, Grand Rapids MI 49503) \nPre-registration required.  Call 616-459-7267 \n$10 per person or $15 per household \nA light picnic dinner will be served from 3–4pm\, followed by a presentation for adults from 4-5:15pm.  Childcare is provided during the presentation. Feel free to bring a blanket to picnic outdoors on the lawn if weather permits. \nGrowing in holiness is often spoken of in terms of spiritual things we need to do; as if we just worked hard enough\, we can make ourselves holy. However\, insights from Pope Francis’ recent teaching on holiness\, “Rejoice and Be Glad” illustrate how holiness is really about God’s work of transforming us into Himself throughout our daily lives. \nGive Now by Selecting Quick Give or pay at class.  \n[gravityform id=”3″ title=”true” description=”true” ajax=”true” field_values=”program_title=Family Picnic and Presentation”]
