SUMMARY:Women of the Way: Women of Dedication\, Determination\, and Devotion
DESCRIPTION:Attend onsite or online \nSuggested donation: $15 \nWomen played significant roles in tending and sustaining the Church of the Way\, the early Church post-Pentecost. These women of dedication\, determination\, and devotion in sharing their love for and commitment to Jesus\, inspired and discipled entire communities – transforming lives by following the Way of Jesus. \nYet\, many of these women\, our ancestors in faith\, remain in obscurity. There is much to learn about and from these women. This presentation will invite us to honor their legacy by engaging in both conversational learning and prayerful pondering as we call them by name and hear their stories. As we meet each of these women\, we will draw on their wisdom and inspiration to strengthen our own dedication\, determination\, and devotion as disciples of the Way some 2\,000 years later. \nCami Beecroft-Mann is a trauma informed spiritual director and certified grief care specialist. SUMMARY:55 Plus Series - Eco-Theology and the Holy Spirit: A New Perspective
DESCRIPTION:Attend onsite or online \nSuggested donation: $15-25 \nAs we grow in age and wisdom\, we often reflect on the legacy that we will leave behind. This presentation offers a profound opportunity to deepen our understanding of the interconnectedness of nature and humanity through the lens of our faith. \nWe will explore how the Holy Spirit unites all of creation\, emphasizing our role in God’s magnificent design. And drawing inspiration from Pope Francis’ encyclical\, Laudato Sí\, we will discuss how our unique gifts can address the challenges facing our planet. Pope Francis reminds us that “the human environment and the natural environment deteriorate together; we cannot adequately combat environmental degradation unless we attend to causes related to human and social degradation” (LS\, 48). \nAs stewards of God’s creation\, we have a responsibility and privilege to heal both the earth and our communities. This Earth Day let’s come together to honor our sacred duty to care for one another and our planet. \nBarbara Yurasek Conklin is a recent graduate from Ohio Dominican University\, receiving a Master of Arts degree in Theology. She is the Marriage Preparation Coordinator for St. Peter’s parish in Douglas\, Michigan and supports various other ministries there as well. Barbara is passionate about marriage ministry\, supporting women in ministry\, and the environment. She is a loving wife and mother of three teenage children. SUMMARY:Women of the Passion: Women of Courage\, Compassion\, and Conviction
DESCRIPTION:Attend onsite or online \n$15 suggested donation \nDuring our Lenten pilgrimage\, we are often looking in detail to the movements of Jesus on his Via Dolorosa\, his Way of the Cross. We don’t often take time to notice those that Jesus was gazing upon as he endured his Passion; the women who companioned him in his pain and anguish\, offered him anointing\, compassion\, and courage. This presentation will slow down our Lenten pilgrimage to take a lingering loving gaze at those whom Jesus gazed upon. Some women will be quickly recognizable others have been diluted by history. Having spent time with these women of the Passion\, we will find inspiration and wisdom to walk our via dolorosas with courage\, compassion\, and conviction. \nCami Beecroft-Mann is a trauma informed spiritual director and certified grief care specialist. SUMMARY:55 Plus Series - Preparing for Judgment Day - Made Fun!
DESCRIPTION:Attend onsite or online \n$ 25 suggested donation \nJesus promises all of us a particular judgment at the moment of our death in which he will reference the words and deeds of our life with his. As we get closer to our personal judgment day\, we may wonder what else we can now do to prepare. This retreat provides a formula for reviewing your life in gratitude\, honestly evaluating what you’ve done and failed to do\, and offering several ways to enhance your life through praying\, relating\, worshipping\, studying\, and much more in the years you have left so that you can relish and not cower in your face-to-face meeting with the Lord. The retreat is based on the author’s book Reaching for Heaven: 14 Spiritual Goals as You Grow Older. Books will be on sale for $15 (cash\, check\, or Venmo). Also bring a Bible and a journal-style notebook. \nCatholics who were formed in the faith as the Second Vatican Council was being rolled out and who experienced the freedom of a kid who didn’t have to come inside until the street lights came on and who came of age in the “Me Generation” 70s will enjoy sharing memories of those days as part of this retreat. \nMichael Amodei is Executive Editor at Ave Maria Press\, Notre Dame Indiana. He is the author of several books\, including Reaching for Heaven: 14 Spiritual Goals as You Grow Older. He grew up in Southern California\, attending CCD classes just as the Second Vatican Council opened and the Church was changing. He is a graduate of Loyola Marymount University and worked at St. Monica’s Catholic Church and School in Santa Monica before moving to Indiana in 1993. Mike is also the Field Supervisor at Notre Dame football games and a Little League baseball coach. He and his wife\, Lisa\, have four adult children and live in South Bend\, Indiana. \nRegister Here!

SUMMARY:55 Plus Series - From Jesus to the Christ: Conflicts and controversies in the early Church\, a historical approach
DESCRIPTION:Participate onsite or online \nSuggested donation: $15-25 \nThe Church began during the time of the Roman Empire. Set in this backdrop\, it was during these early years that various questions and thoughts about the nature of Christ arose. There was considerable conversation and controversy regarding the true nature of Christ.  In this presentation we will attempt to put some historical context on these theological debates.  What were some of these ideas and what role did the Roman Empire play in shaping the Churches ideas on these topics?  Specifically\, we will look at the ideas in Arianism\, Monophysitism and Diaphysitism as we discuss this interesting time in the history of the Christian Church. \nDave Evans is a lifelong Catholic with a 40-year career as a Research Scientist.  Even though he spent his professional life doing science he has always had an interest in history of the early Christian Church.  As a cradle Catholic he always wondered how the Church arrived at some of the precepts we believe.  As a way of growing in our faith he feels it is sometimes helpful if we understand some of the history behind these beliefs. \nRegister Here!

Learn how remain engaged in democratic processes with faith\, hope\, and love. \nThis is a space for dialogue\, welcoming a diversity of perspectives knowing that there are no simple solutions to the various issues at local\, state\, and national levels. It is an opportunity to share with others and explore the teaching of the Catholic Church. \nPanelists: Paul Stankewitz\, legislative advocate for Michigan Catholic Conference\, Allison McCulley\, coordinator for Together West Michigan\, and Paulist Father Mike Cruickshank\, associate pastor at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew. \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Busy Person's Retreat: Creating Space to Meet God in Everyday Life (online participation)
DESCRIPTION:Mondays\, November 4\, 11 & 18 \n7:30 – 9 p.m. ET – Attend Online \nSuggested donation $100 \nCo-sponsored by the Catholic Information Center and Dominican Center Marywood \nAre you feeling fragmented\, pulled in many directions and wish to center yourself in God’s love and care for you? Do you long to find God in your everyday life? Does a retreat sound wonderful but you can’t afford or take the time away for a few days elsewhere? \nThis retreat is for you! Catholic Information Center in collaboration with Dominican Center Marywood have designed an experience of retreating to weave into your regular life. \nThis unique retreat experience offers you collective space and personalized guidance to meet God within the fullness of your busy life. You can choose the in-person option or the virtual option (see below). In both\, we gather once to learn and experience ways of encountering God in everyday life\, followed by two weeks in which you will meet with a spiritual director that we provide\, and a virtual check-in midway for reflection and sharing. We will then close together in community to integrate what we have experienced during this retreat. In all spaces\, we will practice reflective listening so that we can hear the whispers of God within our lives. \n“Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while.” Mark 6:31 \n  \nSpiritual Direction\nThe spiritual director is a companion to help hold sacred space to listen deeply. If you have never tried spiritual direction\, this is a good introduction to see if it is a practice that God is inviting you into. Dominican Center Marywood will match you with a certified director. Be sure to fill out the pairing form during registration. \n“In the spiritual life it’s much more important to know how to listen than to know how to talk…All one can do is walk with the other and help others rightly to hear themselves…When they are heard\, it seems\, they can begin to hear [God].” Richard Rohr\, What the Mystics Know\, 47-48 \nWhen we slow ourselves down enough to really listen\, we encounter truth\, we encounter God. We connect more deeply within ourselves\, with others\, and with God. Our fragmentation integrates and we discover what to hold on to\, what to let go—vital actions for anyone in transition. \nCome for some intentional time to meet with God within your life! \nRegister Here!

SUMMARY:The Catholic Vote
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, September 12 & 26\, October 10 & 24 \n7 – 8:30 p.m. ET \nAttend onsite or online \nSuggested donation $15 per class or $50 for all 4 classes \nMedia pundits and political analysts often talk about the “Catholic vote” during election years. Yet with changing social norms\, the challenges of Catholic public witness have become increasingly more difficult. It is an opportunity to share with others\, explore the teaching of the Catholic Church\, and to be able to make informed choices when exercising your right to vote. \nYou can attend one session or all. The topics for each night are: \nSeptember 12 – Human Dignity \nSeptember 26 – Solidarity \nOctober 10 – Subsidiary \nOctober 24 – Common Good \nMark Mann\, ofs\, is the director of programs and institutes at the Catholic Information Center.
