He has authored several scholarly works\, including a commentary on the Nicene Creed and studies on deification in Christian tradition. Dr. Ortiz holds a Ph.D. from The Catholic University of America and is actively involved in both academic and community life. \nRev. Lam T. Le is a Catholic priest in the Diocese of Grand Rapids\, serving as Pastor of St. John Paul II in Cedar Springs and Mary Queen of Apostles Parish in Sand Lake. Additionally\, Father Lam serves the Diocese as the Vicar for Evangelization. Born in Vietnam\, he immigrated to the U.S. in 1991. He completed his theological studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and was ordained in 2004. Besides his pastoral duties\, he has also served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Theology at Aquinas College. \nFr. Colin Mulhall was born and raised in the Grand Rapids area and attended the Franciscan University of Steubenville in Steubenville\, OH\, and Mundelein Seminary in Mundelein\, IL. Ordained in 2016\, he served as an associate pastor\, parish administrator and pastor for six years before being sent to pursue studies in canon law at the Catholic University of America\, which he completed in the summer of 2024. Set in this backdrop\, it was during these early years that various questions and thoughts about the nature of Christ arose. There was considerable conversation and controversy regarding the true nature of Christ.  In this presentation we will attempt to put some historical context on these theological debates.  What were some of these ideas and what role did the Roman Empire play in shaping the Churches ideas on these topics?  Specifically\, we will look at the ideas in Arianism\, Monophysitism and Diaphysitism as we discuss this interesting time in the history of the Christian Church. \nDave Evans is a lifelong Catholic with a 40-year career as a Research Scientist.  Even though he spent his professional life doing science he has always had an interest in history of the early Christian Church.  As a cradle Catholic he always wondered how the Church arrived at some of the precepts we believe.  As a way of growing in our faith he feels it is sometimes helpful if we understand some of the history behind these beliefs. \nRegister Here!

Then\, we might find more questions than answers surfacing in our hearts: Why is God bringing such suffering?  Why do I have these challenges and others don’t? Is God listening to my prayers? What is the purpose in ongoing illness or pain? Although complete answers might elude us\, there is a wealth of insight and inspiration to be gleaned from the experience of illness and pain – and even\, joy! This presentation\, and the conversation we will have following it\, will frame the journey of faith within daily life with chronic illness and pain and offer prayerful and practical ways to reap abundant grace and encouragement all along the way. \nMaureen Pratt\, MTS\, MFA\, is an award-winning Catholic author of nine books including the devotional\, Peace in the Storm: Meditations on Chronic Pain and Illness (Image/Penguin Random House) and Beyond Pain: Job\, Jesus\, and Joy (Galilee Road Publishing) and\, for most of her life\, has experienced serious\, often-disabling\, pain and chronic illness\, including lupus. She is a popular\, national speaker on the more difficult places in our faith journey\, where belief meets disability\, chronic pain\, illness\, and caregiving. I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.” (Luke 2:10) \nWhen the word “behold” (in Hebrew\, hinneh) appears in the Bible\, there is more going on than just saying “Look! Here!” Behold! is an affirmation that the divine is at work\, that God’s will is made visible – from the first days of creation (Gen. 1:31) to the angels announcing the birth of Jesus to the shepherds (Luke 2:10)\, to the moment Jesus “knocks on the door” of our hearts (Rev. 3:20).  In the season of Advent\, it reminds us to prepare our hearts.
