SUMMARY:The Catholic Vote
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, September 12 & 26\, October 10 & 24 \n7 – 8:30 p.m. ET \nAttend onsite or online \nSuggested donation $15 per class or $50 for all 4 classes \nMedia pundits and political analysts often talk about the “Catholic vote” during election years. Yet with changing social norms\, the challenges of Catholic public witness have become increasingly more difficult. Moreover\, Catholics can be found on both sides of polarizing cultural and political issues. So\, what is the “Catholic vote”? \nThe more important question is “how will you vote this November?” \nThis series will offer the space to explore the four pillars of Catholic moral life as they apply to the political and legal issues around this year’s election: human dignity\, common good\, subsidiarity\, and solidarity. \nThis is a space for dialogue\, welcoming a diversity of perspectives knowing that there are no simple solutions to the various issues at local\, state\, and national levels. It is an opportunity to share with others\, explore the teaching of the Catholic Church\, and to be able to make informed choices when exercising your right to vote. \nYou can attend one session or all. The topics for each night are: \nSeptember 12 – Human Dignity \nSeptember 26 – Solidarity \nOctober 10 – Subsidiary \nOctober 24 – Common Good \nMark Mann\, ofs\, is the director of programs and institutes at the Catholic Information Center. He has a MA in pastoral theology from Loyola University New Orleans and a BA in philosophy from Aquinas College. \nRegister Here!

SUMMARY:55Plus Series: Pain and Joy and the Journey of Faith
DESCRIPTION:Attend in-person or online \n$15-20 suggested donation \nChronic illness and pain can challenge us in myriad ways\, but most especially when our lived experience meets faith. Then\, we might find more questions than answers surfacing in our hearts: Why is God bringing such suffering?  Why do I have these challenges and others don’t? Is God listening to my prayers? What is the purpose in ongoing illness or pain? Although complete answers might elude us\, there is a wealth of insight and inspiration to be gleaned from the experience of illness and pain – and even\, joy! This presentation\, and the conversation we will have following it\, will frame the journey of faith within daily life with chronic illness and pain and offer prayerful and practical ways to reap abundant grace and encouragement all along the way. \nMaureen Pratt\, MTS\, MFA\, is an award-winning Catholic author of nine books including the devotional\, Peace in the Storm: Meditations on Chronic Pain and Illness (Image/Penguin Random House) and Beyond Pain: Job\, Jesus\, and Joy (Galilee Road Publishing) and\, for most of her life\, has experienced serious\, often-disabling\, pain and chronic illness\, including lupus. She is a popular\, national speaker on the more difficult places in our faith journey\, where belief meets disability\, chronic pain\, illness\, and caregiving. Maureen holds a Master of Theological Studies degree and is the Founder and Executive Director of The Peace in the Storm Ministry\, a new parish-based model of spiritual and theologically-sound accompaniment for those who live with chronic illness and pain. \nRegister Here!

SUMMARY:An Evening in December: Behold!
DESCRIPTION:Attend in-person or online \nA donation is requested\, to benefit the Community Food Club \nRegistration required \n“Behold! I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.” (Luke 2:10) \nWhen the word “behold” (in Hebrew\, hinneh) appears in the Bible\, there is more going on than just saying “Look! Here!” Behold! is an affirmation that the divine is at work\, that God’s will is made visible – from the first days of creation (Gen. 1:31) to the angels announcing the birth of Jesus to the shepherds (Luke 2:10)\, to the moment Jesus “knocks on the door” of our hearts (Rev. 3:20).  In the season of Advent\, it reminds us to prepare our hearts. For the good news and great joy of Christ’s coming is meant for all – bringing hope\, peace\, and love to the world. \nThis ecumenical community wide event is sponsored by Bethlehem Lutheran\, Cathedral of Saint Andrew\, Catholic Information Center\, St. Mark’s Episcopal\, and Westminster Presbyterian. \nRegister Here!
