The Advent season welcomes God’s grace into our hearts so that we can find healing. \nRev. Woong-Sik (Timothy) Chon is the Pastor of North Westminster Presbyterian Church in Lansing\, Michigan. Timothy is a Presbyterian (USA) ordained minister of word and sacrament. He holds a Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary\, Virginia\, and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. Timothy’s artwork ranges from graphic illustrations to painting Buon Fresco in sacred spaces.  He has taught in both art institutions and seminaries and served the past 25 years as a Liturgical Art Consultant for the Church.   He served for many years as the Director of the Ecumenical Center for Arts and Spirituality at St. Francis Retreat Center in Dewitt\, Michigan. As an artist-pastor\, Rev. Chon works with faith communities in their united journeys from grief into joy by prayerfully co-creating visual liturgies. \nThis ecumenical\, community wide event is sponsored by the church communities of Bethlehem Lutheran\, Cathedral of Saint Andrew\, St. Mark’s Episcopal\, Westminster Presbyterian\, and the Catholic Information Center and Kaufman Interfaith Institute. A 400-year tradition\, Las Posadas derives from the Spanish word for ‘lodging’ and in this devotion\, refers to the inn from the Nativity story. Explore the richness of this devotional practice and the lesson it has for all of us about making room in our hearts – for the Lord and his people. \nFather Stephen Dudek is a priest of the Diocese of Grand Rapids and has served as diocesan director of Missions since 2009. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from St. Thomas Seminary in Denver and a Licentiate Degree in Theology from the Jesuit-run Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. While in Ghana\, he studied at the Tamale Institute of Cross-Cultural Studies. In 2002 he was awarded a Doctor of Ministry from Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. For many years\, he has coordinated pilgrimages of Reverse Mission among the indigenous communities of the Archdiocese of Oaxaca (Mexico). His local parish ministry in Grand Rapids\, Muskegon\, Holland\, and Wyoming\, among English\, Spanish\, and Vietnamese speaking Catholics has heightened his awareness of the gifts and challenges of culturally diverse-shared parishes. \nClick Here to Register

DESCRIPTION:Free presentation \nJoin us in-person or online \nRegistration required \nPolarization – as demonstrated in too many of our public social\, political\, cultural\, and religious interactions – tends to foster an insidious interplay amongst three ‘fates’ designed to misshape how we see and relate to one another\, to ourselves\, and even God.  These fates are not new to the human experience and the Catholic faith has always had ways of dealing with these dark forces – with virtue\, restoration\, and light.  In this talk\, Father Bell will identify these three ‘fates’ and how they work\, and the gifts of our faith and spirituality that can counteract them\, if we dare to use them. \nA native of Washington\, D.C.\, Paulist Father Steven Bell was ordained in 2008 and has served in campus ministry at the University of California Berkeley and Ohio State University\, as well as in parish ministry at St. Austin Church in Austin\, TX. Additionally\, he was the associate director of the media ministry “Busted Halo”.
