Friends of the Center Newsletter – September 2025

September 2025

Dear friends,

I love the fall! I love everything about it! The season changing, new routines starting, cooler temperatures arriving, new sports launching. It reminds me to slow down, breathe in each day and appreciate God’s goodness.

On September 30, I will have completed my first official year as the Program Coordinator and has it been jam packed!

In the past year, we have launched two new cohorts of participants in the Leadership Formation Institute: the third cohort for Hispanic Ministry, and the first cohort for Missionary Discipleship.

The impact has been very encouraging. Participants have reported a deepening of their prayer life, more intentional participation in the sacraments, and a growing desire to share their faith to evangelize others.

Currently, these leaders are developing parish-based projects in six communities across the diocese, including women’s retreats, Children’s Liturgy of the Word, outreach to inactive Catholics, faith formation partnerships with parents, and small group ministry development.

In addition to the Institute, the CIC is committed to serving parishes through engaging adult faith formation, especially as a follow-up to initiatives like Divine Renovation, Alpha, ChristLife, and the Rescue Project.

  • Women of Vision: 4-part series exploring the lives and legacies of women who exercised their love for God in the Catholic Tradition.
  • School of the Beatitudes: A monthly opportunity, starting Sept. 13 to explore the profound wisdom of the Beatitudes through prayer, teaching, and service learning opportunities.
  • Watch Your Language: Join Paulist Father Joachim Lally on Sept. 9 for an interactive presentation on how we talk about our spiritual lives.
  • A New Shepherd, A Renewed Call – Pope Leo XIV: Greg Carnevale will share his insights about the first American pope on Sept. 16.

Your partnership in this ministry is how we continue to be an indispensable resource to lay Catholics and all who seek to know Jesus and his Gospel. Thank you for your continued prayerful and financial support.

As we lean into the blessings of fall, we can breathe in these words:

Let us fear the Lord our God, who gives the rain in its season, the autumn rain and the spring rain, and keeps for us the weeks appointed for the harvest. (Jeremiah 5:24).

Peace and prayer,

Watch Your Language: Alternative Ways to Talk about Religion and Spirituality

Tuesday, September 9

This interactive presentation invites you to reexamine the words we use to describe our spiritual lives. By exploring familiar terms through new lenses we’ll uncover how language can both limit and liberate our spiritual growth.

Paulist Fr. Joachim Lally teaches courses on mystics, Centering Prayer, and the parables. Since 1989, he has led more than 50 missions to the Dominican Republic. With a master’s degree in guidance and counseling, Father Lally has been a counselor and therapist.

A New Shepherd, A Renewed Call: Pope Leo XIV

Tuesday, September 6

In May 2025, history was made with the election of Pope Leo XIV – the first American-born pope and a lifelong Augustinian with deep pastoral and missionary roots. But what does this moment mean for Catholics in the United States? Join Greg Carnevale, retired professor of classics, for a reflection on Pope Leo’s emphasis on mercy, mission, and peace, and how his leadership echoes the legacy of Leo XIII and Pope Francis.

This presentation is part of the 55plus Series, exploring spirituality and vitality in the second half of life.
